AUXCOMM

AUXCOMM
So what is it good for?

1“Auxcomm (AuxC) – Auxiliary Communications is a Program Developed to Provide Skilled Volunteers for Emergency Management Organizations

An AUXC position has recently been added to the National Incident Management System (NIMS): Information and Communications Technology Branch.  The AuxC serves under the Incident Communications Center Manager (ICCM or IC) or the Communications Unit Leader (ComL). The AUXC is responsible for installing appropriate/approved auxiliary communications equipment per discussion with the COML or IC; testing all components of auxiliary communications equipment to ensure systems are operational; operating auxiliary communications equipment for voice and data communications; establishing auxiliary communications area(s) of operation; and interacting and coordinating with appropriate auxiliary communications operational personnel.

The AuxXC certification is proof of the skill and competence of the Amateur Radio Volunteer.”

Because it is recognized under NIMS, the AuxC is recognized and welcomed by ICs who have no time for lesser trained communicators in emergencies. The AuxC serves as a buffer between the two.

But that is really just the beginning. There is much more to being AUXCOMM certified. Here is a video put out by a group in Michigan, I couldn’t find a comparably good video for Texas, that will give an excellent overview: What is AUXCOMM? Genesee County, Michigan

If interested, speak with your ED or DEC for details and training schedules.
